2013-11-18

20-21 november 2013 inbjuder biträdande socialminister Maria Larsson till konferensen Cannabis and Health.

This week Maria Larsson, Swedish minister responsible for drug policy, invites high-level representatives from governments, the public sector and civil society, as well as researchers, to an international scientific conference on cannabis, where the latest findings from research and policy development will be presented.
The conference will take place on 20–21 November 2013 in Stockholm, Sweden.

Cannabis is the most commonly used illegal drug among young people. We know that cannabis has become stronger and that THC levels are many times higher today than in the 1980s. This has an impact on the brain and individual learning and memory capacity, etc.

The conference will highlight recent scientific findings on cannabis and their consequences for national drug strategies. The conference will contribute to policy development based on best available knowledge and underscore the strategic importance of keeping cannabis and health issues high on the agenda. Dr Nora Volkow is the Director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) in the United States and one of several researchers participating in the conference. As a research psychiatrist and scientist, Dr. Volkow pioneered the use of brain imaging to investigate the toxic effects and addictive properties of abusable drugs.
